[dropcap size=small]Y[/dropcap]oung Adult movies have been made since long but they’ve gained much worldwide popularity in recent years. The Hunger Games may even be blamed to spark the production of so many cliched dystopian YA movie adaptations like The Maze Runner, The Divergent series, and many more to come. Some elements common to all YA movies maybe necessary, but what’s with the love triangles? Many of you must have even started hating the genre itself for the kinds of movies being made. Sometimes the movie turns out to be bad because they’re not faithful to the books while sometimes they are just bad. Still these movies are making tonnes of money. Here’s Crizic’s list of 5 worst young adult movies released since 2010:
5. Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters:
Everyone knows that the Percy Jackson books were, well, AWESOME. But the movie adaptations were terrible. The characters didn’t seem to be the right age for the movie and the Sea of Monsters was a blunder. The only good thing in the movie (which was also completely unrelated to the plot) was Nathan Fillion’s Firefly reference when he talks about Hercules Busts Head – “Best TV show ever…so of cource, cancelled”. It was actually very funny. But unfortunately the movie wasn’t that good and a third movie in the series seems to be dead.
4. Ender’s Game:
Another dystopian movie with a young protagonist done wrong. And what was the rush? The movie was way too fast paced, even through the immportant scenes.
A female lead, division of society into ‘factions’, evil government. That seems familiar. But, the repetitive theme is not what makes the movie bad, though it certainly adds to the bad part, because Hunger Games did it better. There were so many unnecessary scenes, the characters were dull, and the plot didn’t create any interest either. The movie was unable to deliver what was expected from a dystopian movie even though its a young adult genre film. The second installment, Insurgent, was equally bad.
2. The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones:
The movie didn’t do great at the box office and mostly received negative reviews from critics, and they were absolutely right this time. The movie was just not able to bind you through its entire length. You lose interest by the end. It was just plain boring.
1. Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Parts 1 and 2):
You knew it, didn’t you? Breaking Dawn has to be number 1 on this list. Its probably one of the worst YA movie of all time. Even though they were a box office success, the movies were actually a disaster. There wasn’t even any need to make breaking dawn in two parts. It could have been easily done in a single flick. Plot advancement was exhaustively lazy, movies were dreadful, and same goes for the performances.
